The eighth newsletter (November 6, 2001)

Hey kids!

We'd like to extend a hearty "Howdy-Do!" to all our new subscribers, and thank those of you who've been with us for a while now. We're mighty glad to have ya!

Here's the latest in the world o' Johnny Ryan and Angry Youth Comix...

* Getting antsy for the upcoming issue of AYC? You don't have to wait 'til January to get your fix. Just pick up a copy of the Expo 2001 book, available way cheap at many fine online retailers (including Johnny's publisher, Fantagraphics. He's got a 4-page story in there entitled "The Nudist", which was originally published in the now out-of-print AYC Vol 1, #10. It's a fave story of comix superstar Dan Clowes, who also did the Expo book's spectacular cover.

* Speaking of Dan Clowes, the clown prince of comix 'n' cinema recently contributed a haunting portrait of Loady McGee to the "Fan Art" section of Johnny's site. We also received two hilarious drawings from former Hate! contributor Karl Wills and NYC-based illustrator (and NY Times editor) Scott Teplin. Take a

look for yourselves! Don't forget to click on the art to view it up close and personal.

* Nickelodeon magazine recently commissioned 3 more gags from Johnny, so keep an eye out for an unprecedented increase in juvenile delinquency. We'll let you know when the gags are actually published.

* Back in September, NYC's scummy newsprint sex rag SCREW used a cover Johnny drew for 'em about 2.5 years ago. Their timing was bad every way you slice it. The idea that New Yorkers were seeing this image on the newsstands alongside newspapers emblazoned with images of terrorist attacks is pretty dumbfounding and more than a little amusing. To see Johnny's uplifting personal philosophy made art, go to http://www.geocities.com/saltyjenny/screw.html.

* We will be having brand new tee-shirts made, which will debut early next year in tandem with AYC #3. We were selling shirts through Cafepress (http://www.cafepress.com/ayc) but the quality of the transfers has gotten so bad we will no longer be working with them (except for mugs and mousepads). Our new shirts are hand-silkscreened and feature a hilarious new design. More details to come. Oh, and if

you already own one of the iffy-quality AYC shirt, please send your name and mailing address to this mail address so we can send you a replacement on us. Aren't we the dickens?

* Johnny will be celebrating his birthday on November 30. What's on his Wish List? For one, he'd really like to quit his day job. Can you make this happen? Write him at superjohnny69@yahoo.com. Otherwise, a Precious Moments figurine always makes a lovely gift.

That's about it for now! Thanks for reading...

Shits 'n' Giggles, Loady McGee
