The ninth newsletter (Jan 5, 2002)

Hey kids!

We're back yet again with all the AYC news that's fit to print. It's been a while, so let's skip the goofy intro and get right to the meat of the matter (wink-wink). Did I just say that out loud? Anyway, here's the latest:

****** LOADY McGEE's EUROPEAN VACATION! ****** Hold onto your berets: Johnny has been asked to attend the 29th Annual Festival International de la Bande Dessinée in Angouleme, France. For you non-Frogs out there, this is a huge and very prestigious comics festival held in a town with it's very own highly acclaimed comic art museum! Imagine, a culture which actually values comics as a viable artform. Who'd a thunk it? Barring any International incidents or weather-related mishaps, Johnny will be enjoying all the heady wine and stinky cheese (or stinky wine and head cheese) he can handle from 1/22-1/28. His girlfriend and colorist Jenny will also be attending, thanks to the American Airlines frequent flier miles program. As the residents of Angouleme will soon learn, Johnny est la premiere artist du merde! * Here's a link to the official festival/museum site: http://www.bdangouleme.com/index.htm * To translate the page, enter the url here: http://world.altavista.com/ NOTE: Johnny will unfortunately NOT be attending the APE convention in San Francisco, as he is now all cosmopolitan and shit and WAY too good for some lame-ass American con. (Actually, he just couldn't get any more time off.)

****** JOHNNY IN THE "MEDIA" ****** - You completist types will wanna check out the latest Nickelodeon magazine, which features that scary kid "Jimmy Neutron" on the cover, as he has a new gag cartoon in the Comic Book section. It's cute AND gross! - There are rumblings that the LA Weekly may soon be doing a short feature on Johnny. We'll let you know! - We'd also like to bring your attention to the hilarious doings over at our pal Mary Burt's website, SAD MAGAZINE (http://www.sadmagazine.com). She's got a long, funny, and informative interview with Johnny on there (plus a pic of him eating a giant Rice Krispie Treat), which is nicely accented by the "rebuttal interview" from his former AYC publishing partner Matt Sanborn-- who also served as inspiration for Johnny's "Mullet" character. See them duke it out for yourself! * Johnny Interview - http://www.geocities.com/bigeyedcat/crier/johnny/johnny.html * Matt's Rebuttal - http://www.geocities.com/bigeyedcat/crier/mattsanborn/mattsanborn.html
